Pharmacist Spotlight: Traci Lanning
Our October spotlight features Traci Lanning of Lanning Pharmacy in Marion, Kan. Traci shared with us why she became an independent pharmacist, why the job is so rewarding, and why she is proud to work for her community.
When did you realize that you wanted to become a pharmacist?
I always knew I wanted to work in health care and I enjoyed chemistry and math in high school. I felt there was a lot of flexibility and career options in pharmacy so I decided to pursue a pharmacy degree.
What made you want to become an independent pharmacist?
During college I worked part time at an independent pharmacy. I really liked the family atmosphere and the fact that patient care was a priority.
What do you find most rewarding about working in independent pharmacy?
Knowing that we have a positive impact on every patient that walks through our door. It might be as simple as helping a patient with OTC medication or actually organizing and packaging a patient’s medication every month so they can stay in their own home a little while longer. Improving our patients’ lives is our priority.
What advice would you offer to those who would like to potentially own an independent pharmacy one day?
Owning an independent pharmacy is not always easy – focus on the positive! You need patience and a good work ethic. The satisfaction of knowing just how much your patients appreciate you and your staff definitely makes the tough times bearable.
What are you most proud of that your pharmacy has accomplished?
Our patients always come first. We are proud to provide excellent healthcare and wellness services to our patients that are customized to meet their individual needs.
